Getting better performance with stock cooling than hyper tx3 evo.

Hey!

So I've managed to build my rig, and when I started monitoring I noticed my idle temp was around 45c. This alarmed me, I tried remounting the cooler but that didn't help. The cooler is Hyper tx3 evo, I'm mounting it on a i7-4770k (LGA1150).

The thing is, so far I'm getting better performance with my stock cooler. I tested the cooler and I was getting 100c temps in Prime95 which is really dangerous. I swapped over to the stock one and I got 80c max.

So I guess I'm having some problems mounting it. I also don't hear the clicky sounds when I'm mounting it, but the mounting feels really solid when it's there altogether. What could be wrong?

And yes, I'm using thermal paste. Blob spread. Arctic Silver 5.

Solution
got be the intel push pin assembly, even though it's same mounting as stock cooler.

This cooler is very good (not excellent), something is definitely not right.

connect pins diagonally, ie one pin, opposite pin.

The weird thing is that I'm getting better temps with my STOCK cooler. So weird.

edit: also the mbo I'm installing it on is a Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z87

go one pin then opposite pin.

The only other thing it could be is the face of the cooler is warped somewhat. So the gap between cooler and hsf is to large in certain places for effective heat exchange. Put a flat edge across cooler face to check.

The retention plates had different settings for three different mounting options. I was trying to use the 775 socket mounting option, that's why I couldn't fit tx3 in. I noticed it while re-reading the instructions, moved the retention plates to their appropriate spots and it mounted nicely with the clicks. Now running 70c max in Prime95 with small FFTs.
