Trying to retrieve data from an old laptop hdd by using a SATA to USB cable and separate molex power cable. I know there is power getting to the drive but there is no sound, lights, vibration, etc.. Wondering if something coming from the data cable has to tell the drive to "come to life". It's a 2.5" WD SATA hdd and I'm connecting it to my macbook pro via a SATA to USB cable. The drive used to work but the laptop had "other issues". Just trying to see if my data is recoverable from the hdd.
