Is it worth overclocking nowadays?

I'm planning a build for Christmas, http:// and i wanted to know would it even be worth it to get the 4670k? the stock 4670 comes with a base clock of 3.4 GHz and aren't most game companies trying to optimize their games for people with less powerful pc's? So in summary do i go the extra $20-$30. Also if you have any comments on the rest of the build i would be thankful.

Depends on what you are doing. If you are video rendering or folding @ home then yes. Games a little. Surfing and email no.

Now, most modern CPUs support turbo and are designed with a light overclock in mind. They are very easy to over clock and I believe some places will actually warranty them if you use the recommended turbo only.

Not sure if I answered your quest I need to know what you are planning on using the computer for?

It can and does make a difference to gaming (both cpu and gpu oc'ing). Not only are the average FPS increased but more importantly often the lowest. This is the difference between a great gaming experience or not IMO.

If it were my build i would lose the the thermaltake case and go for a 280x.

The Antec is fine but the seasonic is better.

I actually like the case but it depends on what you are planning for the future. If you want to get into water cooling then you will need the right case.

As for a suggestion, I ALWAYS recommend either a SSD drive or a Hybrid drive. A 1 TB Hybrid drive will run you about $20 mor than what you are currently paying but the speed will make more than worth it. Also, if you have the money you can get an 250 GB SSD for your Windows and keep your mechanical drive for your data.
