Hi I'm new here. Nice to meet you all. I hope you can help me. 2 days ago, my computer was working fine, the monitor was fine and everything, But then my computer went to sleep and then I was unable to wake up the screen. I could hear the fan and the computer was responding, the lights, disc drive and everything would work, but my screen is black. The only way I can see anything is to hook it up to an external monitor. I thought it might be a problem with my video card driver so I updated it and still it isn't fixed.this computer is almost 4 years old if that means anything.

Solution

Check the connection by taking apart the case and checking the cable that goes to the motherboard from the screen.

Although with your new issue with the fan, you need to get that checked on also, no fan can mean overheated CPU which can kill the CPU or the motherboard.

You may be better off with just buying a working laptop of the same model and swapping hard drivers as getting the screen replaced and the fan issue checked out would cost the...
Either your Inverter, Backlight or LCD screen are bad. If you look closely at the screen under light, do you see a faint image? If yet, you need to replace the inverter or backlight. If no image at all, your connection to the motherboard may be bad or you need to replace the screen.

If the system works with an external monitor, it's the screen not the motherboard. The only time it may be the motherboard is if the connection to the screen is bad, you can check the connection and see if it's seated properly, or have someone check it for you before replacing the screen.

How do I check the connection?
Also now there is a new problem. My laptop's fan has stopped spinning and when I shut down the computer and turn it back on again It says "possible system damage. Computer will shut down in 15 seconds" etc. It also says Fan error 90B. Not sure what that means.

Or simply backup your data and replace the laptop with a new one that has a fresh warranty.
