Asrock mother board CPU upgrade problems

Hi I have a new i5 3470k and an asrock h16m-vs motherboard.
I put the new CPU in but it would not boot up because I forgot to update the bios
But when I put my old CPU (dual core celeron) in it wouldn't boot up either.
Have I corrupted the bios?
What should I do?

What happens if you try to boot with your old CPU, does system turn on?

All the fans start spinning and the hard drive buzzes
But the moniter stays blank
