Is my HDD the root of all my laptop problems?

I've had my laptop for over a year now, not even a long period of time, my laptop is the Dell inspiron 7520, the HDD in place is the WD Blue 1TB model.

At every boot up it comes up with a disk read error, and you have to press ctrl + alt + delete to reboot computer, but i have to do this over and over, sometimes i just give up. Once ive gotten past this loop the boot up time takes an extra amount of time compared to what it used to.
Finally once boot up has finished the desktop (Windows 7 btw) makes me wait a further few minutes to even access my files, this could be my libraries, firefox or whatever function i need to access.

I know my HDD has some errors (my laptop tells me) but im not sure if it could cause my laptop to become extremely slow, and be the root of all these problems that occur, even starting up from sleep takes an age!

Is there more to my laptop or is it just the HDD?

Btw I'm considering getting an WD Black HDD to replace my current one.

What do you guys think?

Your symptoms do sound like a drive failing. When you can get it running, back up everything you can on it. If you don't have factory restore disks, there should be a procedure to make them, which you should follow ASAP; then replace the drive.
