Upgrade my current 6870 2GB, suggest any better current or to be released

All that I ask for is consistent 60FPS at 1280x1024 on all games

Budget not really sure because Im doing this around the timeframe of summer vacation, and please dont include potential price drops and you can include to be release cards
I guess a bit above 100$ and well below 200$
I dont mind any old cards like 5970 as long as theyre good, and I can xfire but it's 4x pcie 2.0

Guys just assume that I'll buy literally any PSU required, (on forums sometimes ppl ask for detail and never come back

And CPU is 955 @4.2GHz (could upgrade if there's a bottleneck)

I literally want to torture the guy who came up with the 78x0 cards, those two make me so angry. Like 6870 was as cheap as a 5770 was only a few months before i bought it, but these annoying two cards were so freaking expensive then and haven't dropped to be worthy of any respect
Although I'm open to suggestions from nvideo as well as 6/5xxx series radeons too

the main thing to look out for is the ram on the card never get a one with ddr3 always go for ddr5, if its a 1gb card with ddr5 it'll be ten times faster than a 2gb card with ddr3!
