Hi Tomshardware...

I just upgraded to a 780 Ti GPU and bought a new PSU along with it, a Seasonic M12II Bronze - 750W.

When everything is connected and I turn on the computer, the PSU (and I'm certain it's the PSU. Have tried holding my fingers on other fans, tried with my old PSU, tried with my old GPU etc.) is really loud during idle. The noise can be compared to a GPU running at approximately 80% speed (?). It's very annoying. The computer boots just fine otherwise.

I've even sent the PSU back to the seller for RMA, claiming it was faulty, but the new one I just received does the exact same thing. The box even says it's supposed to be very silent, at most making 22 dbA of noise...

Am I doing anything wrong or have I got a faulty unit again? As said, everything boots up perfectly fine.

Thanks a lot...

I would worry the supply is getting hot because of some kind of resistance. Make sure all of the connections to the supply are secure. If that doesn't work, you might be getting them from a supplier with a bad batch.

The fan's making all the noise for you correct?

My room is quite cool and it makes the noise as soon as the pc boots up, not after some time, so I don't know if it's related to heat. I've checked all the connections several times but I'll do it again...

Anything I might have forgotten to connect? I just thought that if the PC boots up fine then everything's connected as supposed.

Yes, it is the fan :(

Not saying I've seen everything there is to see, but I haven't seen any PSU that required a special cable such as that in order to run properly.

The PC will boot up so you know you have power going to the CPU, motherboard, drives and video card. You're able to turn on the PC by using the case switch so you know that's connected.

You get the same loud fan noise with the old video card too?
