AMD FX-8320 versus FX-8350

I currently have a Phenom II 955 at 3.2Ghz (quad-core).
CPUboss indicates that my Phenom II would get almost exactly the same performance as an FX-8320 in single core tests. That doesn't sound possible. :s

Would an FX-8320 be a worthwhile upgrade for single-threaded games and applications, or would I need to go to an FX-8350 for a significant improvement?

Depending on the benchmark, they show 70% or better multi-core performance for the 8320 over your Phenom, & the single-core performance shows as 25% better. Note that I'm not talking about their generic "scores" (out of a 10.0 range), I'm talking about the listed benchmark numbers from the 3rd-parties: PassMark, CineBench, Geekbench, etc.

The 8320 should be more than fine for you, & is much less expensive than the 8350...which, if you ever decide to overclock, is a major point since the 8320 OC'd can match the 8350 OC'd for performance.
CPU-boss is generally quite unreliable, but it's not that far off here. There really isn't much of a difference in single-threaded performance between the Phenom II and FX CPUs.

If you want more single-threaded performance, you should buy an Intel CPU.

I was worried about that. :/ I actually need an AMD CPU because I need to replace my motherboard immediately (the one I have is dying), but I have an AMD CPU. That means I need to get another AM3+ motherboard, which in turn means my CPU will need to be AMD when I replace it a while later.

Would I see significant performance increases on double or triple threaded applications with an FX-8320 over my Phenom II?

Passmark is pretty useless, and Cinebench shows a very limited difference in single-threaded performance.
