I just built my new rig and have a couple of questions. I have an ssd and HDD and want to run windows on the SSD. In bios I have the sata ports that both drives are on set to AHCI. DO i set my optical drive to AHCI also or set it to IDE. The guide with my mobo says they recommend setting my optical drive to port 5/6 and setting it to IDE. I have it in port 6 so should i set this to IDE? What is the difference?

As far as I know you can only set the SATA controller to either IDE, AHCI or RAID, not the individual ports. Since you plan on using a SSD I would go with AHCI as it has the feature set required to keep SSD's in shape. (TRIM). If you have more then 1 SATA controller on board, AND do not need the extra ports. I would put it on the same controller as the SSD and leave it at AHCI. This way you can disable the second controller in the BIOS and get a quicker boot.
