id unplug the other hardrive and install a fresh copy of windows 7 onto the ssd then upgrade, thats if your using an upgrade version of windows 8?, also before you install windows onto the ssd go into bios with the other hardrive unplugged and check that the sata type is set to AHCI. Once you've installed everything you can either format your old hardrive or keep it as it is but not all the programs previously installed on your old hardrive will work

if you're looking for a full Migration, so that you don't have to install Windows 7, then 8, then 8.1 etc... use EaseUS Todo Backup to clone the hard drive to the SSD, THEN upgrade to windows 8, then 8.1

No this isn't a product promotion, it's free (home use), I've used this software on multiple SSD migrations, it works good, you can even do it while running on the HDD with the windows you're migrating, i watched a movie when i used this on my personal SSD migration.
