There have been no real successful external video cards in the past. The only promising thing to date is an external graphics card in a thunderbolt enclosure. Search that and you will find some reviews or devices that were demoed by some manufacturers. They will be expensive and hard to find if even available, but gives the most promising solution to date. You would need a thunderbolt port on your laptop though.
