So my friend has bought some days ago a new custom PC. Instead of going for an AMD CPU and a GPU, he went for an Intel i5 and an integrated GPU... Nevermind, nothing can be done now. I wonder what can he play. He's 4GB RAM, Intel i5 CPU (he doesn't remember which one), integrated Intel graphics, Windows 8...

Thanks.

He doesn't even remember which i5 he's picked, but I'd think of a 3rd generation and not 4th.

Yeah, I guess he can buy a GPU, the problem is that he's not going to do that now that he's bought the PC... No idea if he's thinking on that in the future.

His resolution is 1080p I believe, or perhaps 1600x900. Anyways he says that the monitor is a bit old and it looks blurred, so he's going to get a new one soon.

Yeah, without a GPU he will not really be playing any games at all. He more than likely has hd2500 graphics. I'm 99% sure of this. Unless he has a 3570k he will have hd2500. He won't really be able to play modern games at 1080p at all. Not even at lowest settings.

Which games are you talking about? Things like Half-life with no mods, TF2, Age of empires? Things like that will run alright. There are plenty of 3 year old games he will not be able to play at all though, like crysis and stuff like that.

Depends on which one he has. Nicely put HD 2500 is crap. HD 4000 should play a decent chuck of older games at least on low though. It is really the 4th gen 4600 and Iris pro (5200) that are worth anything.
