what does a recovery error mean when restarting my laptop

When restarting my laptop I got a message that said a recovery error had occured and to shut my computer off.Anyone have a suggestion?

Start by testing the hard drive to see if it's failing. You will need to make a bootable CD from the CD Image of
Hitachi Drive Fitness Test which you can download from this page: https://www2.hgst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT

1) Save the CD Image file.
2) Install IMGBurn: http://www.filehippo.com/download_imgburn
3) Use IMGBurn to create a bootable CD from the image file you saved.
4) Now boot your laptop from that CD and the Drive Fitness Test will open after several minutes.
5) Test your laptop hard drive using the Long/extended test.
