I had make backups with 2 different programs to different Hard drives, one to a toshiba usb drive, and they both changed to a new backup date. The new dates did not contain my old data, and were therefor useless to try and restore. How can these change?

did you customize the naming of the backup. some programs use a command style file naming to that each one is different than the last so the backups are not over written. if you customized it you may have to customize the backup name each time or it might be over writing each time.

other possibility is see if there is a setting that only saves a certain amount of backups and if only set to one it will delete the one there to make the 1 allowed

what are the programs?

One was made with NTI now EZ, and the backup was to my Toshiba USB drive. It was the one made just before the crash. The second one was made sometime last year using Peragon on one of my large internal drives. Both backups now are dated this year, and only result in restoring my computer to after the crash (I had restored from my original Windows XP disc, to get running).

didnt get notice for reply before.
I cannot say why they are dated now if those two reasons were not it. As for toshiba NTI, i do not know if it does an image or just files and folders. The paragon might have been an image program.

have you try to run recuva or virtual lab or some type of recovery program to see if either of the older files are still there and able to be retrieved (to different source than original).

As for NTI, it may have been set to work as soon as drive is available but why no usable information i do not know.
