hi so there is this guy selling gtx 680 and they are pretty cheap but he told me they were cheap because they were DDR3 memory and not DDR5 memory.

1. first question is does this actually exist because i googled GTX 680 DDR3 and nothing came up.
2.and second question, if it does exist does it limit the gtx 680 abilities in gaming and 3d rendering?

thanks in advance.

Solution
I've never seen a 680 with DDR3 on it. I would think it would have a pretty serious negative impact on performance if some one actually made one. It doesn't seem like it would make any sense at all to make one. Get him to give you the brand and model number and look it up.

only pretty low end cards use plain DDR3, typically the lowest card or two in a lineup. So you won't find a high end card (like the 680) with DDR3. GDDR5 is actually just DDR3 with some modefications that help the GPU access it much more efficiently (quickly). In the cards that do use DDR3, it does limit the performance because the card can get held up waiting for things to get loaded in and out of memory.

Always get GDDR5 cards if possible.

Yeah, fake for sure, no 680 was ever made with DDR3, it would be like getting a Ferrari and then putting little wheels off a scooter on it. The power would be there, but you'd be very limited as to how much of it you could use at once.

Haha, no worries, doesn't bother me. I do find it kind of funny how the best answer button is all colorful and easy to spot and the reply link is so plain, considering how much more important reply is than best answer.
