how to install a second hard drive thats running WinXP Pro 64bit. I want to use it as a backup drive

I have a Dell XPS 8700 Intel I-5 running windows 7. Didn't get a OS disk. OS is on a partition of the original factory installed sata dive. I want to add a second sata 500gb drive to use as a backup but it is running WinXP Pro SP3 64 bit. Do I have to reformat the second drive.

you don't need to format it but if you're going to use it as a backup drive then it wouldn't hurt if you did as you can claw back the spaced used up by the operating system.
