Hello everybody,
I just installed some new parts in my computer, including a 3570k and a Corsair H100i. To begin with the thing ran at 35c idle and would hit about 80c during Prime95 (no OC). After such, I OCd the 3570k to 4.2GHz using "EasyTune 6" from Gigabyte. During Prime95, temps. are hitting +100C, as seen in this picture (sorry for the bad quality).

I've reapplied the thermal paste twice with no luck. I've read somewhere that you should use "washers" on the backplate to make sure its fit enough, but honestly the whole thing seems pretty damn tight already (I do admit though that the backplates screws were somewhat loose/jiggly) but after applying the actual unit onto the CPU and using 4 more screws onto the loose/jiggly ones they pretty much seemed to tighten up by themselves.

Obviously somethings wrong, but I dont know if theres anything to do than just return it?

When I saw the 100c I shut off Prime95 immediatly. It did not shut down, I didnt notice any throttling either. It goes from those 35c idle to 90-100 in a matter of seconds when I turn on a test in Prime95. At load the vcore is 1.4. Even if that is a high vcore, these temps. seem outrageous nontheless and I dont know if theres a "check list" to go through or if I should simply return it.

I dont know how a few washers would fix this.

i think your reading the temp wrong download open hardware monitor and make sure your looking at the cpu core temp.
the large temp box up top on your software saying the cpu is 30-40c from max. not the temp in real time. want look at cpu chip and core temps.

At stock it was the same but Prime95 test would "only" take it to 80c. This was with Turbo Boost on however that would take it to 3.8GHz.

CPUID HWMonitor? I have that. Its the same numbers I get. I can feel the water in the pump, the actual tubes arent hot though. Im assuming its getting powered since the Corsair logo is lid up, and the Corsair Link software says the pump is running at 2265rpm.

Some people claim that adding a decent washer (rubber) lowered their temps with 10-15c. Even so, however, 80-95c seems very high for a 4.2GHz OC (assuming adding washers would actually lower my temps.)
