Is this motherboard good at the price?

Hello,

I have been looking for a new motherboard for some time now but don't want to spend an outrageous amount of money.

I have an AMD build with a Gigabyte 970A-D3P and I am thinking about buying a Sabertooth 990 FX R2.0 for $160.

I was just wondering what you guys thought about that price, is it a good deal?

Thank you! :)

Its not really discounted, but its at the price it should be. Some sell for 210 which is overpriced. You might find one cheaper, but its not going to be often, or for long. I would say its worth it.
I would avoid the open boxes, as that can mean anything from a torn plastic casing, to one that was dropped and opened etc. Buy new for components.

But you wouldn't call it a steal? Would you happen to know if it has ever been cheaper, because as far as I can tell this is the cheapest it has ever been in a retail store.? I am just trying to save as much money as possible because I have a couple other parts I want to replace fairly soon. There is an open box one available as well, that one is going for $140 but I am unsure of the status of the warranty and that is one of the reasons I am considering it over the Crosshair V Formula-Z.

Thank you for your help!

Really, I did not know that it was basically the base price, from what I have seen base has been around $180 and I have never seen it dip into the $150's before, and they have always sold out really quickly if they got low in price.

I'll probably get it as I have been looking for a new mobo for close to 4 or 5 months now, its about time I just bought it and got it over with :p .

I agree, who knows what happened to the open box item, but I thought I might as well bring it up since it was a pretty big discount. If its defective though, I would probably have to spend more on shipping then I would be back to the original price.

Thank you again for your help, you made my decision easier :)

I'm kinda in the same situation myself, I started with a $400 PC (w/ linux to reduce the cost) and now I am probably up to around $700, maybe $800, with my new(er) SSD and PSU, eventually my whole PC will be overhauled and by that time it'll be time to do it again, lol... but anyways, next on my list is a new cooler, a water cooler to be exact. I missed the good deals on those though, could have gotten a H110 for $90 but I took to long to decide and now its back up to $120 :( that's life I suppose. What processor are you thinking of upgrading to?

Yeah, it's always about the budget isn't it. Right now I have a 6350 that runs really well when Overclocked but I can't handle much over 4.2 Ghz (base clock with turbo enabled.) without it becoming unstable. I am pretty sure that is because of my mobo since I never had a problem with temps during the process and everyone I talked to said I was doing it right so hopefully it gets more stable with the new mobo but even if it doesn't I'll have myself a snazzy Sabertooth! lol.

The 8320 is supposed to be pretty great for overclocking so that should be fun, figuring out how high you can go.

lol, keep that 965 going, you got a pretty good overclock out of it too. Although I have to say the GPU is probably never tasked as hard as it could be with the processor, unless I am really underestimating it.

Wow! that is surprising, I never expected it to take on so much and live to tell the tale, lol. sounds like you could beat up my rig right now just because at base overclock the 6350 really isn't anything special.

I just took a look at the passmark scores for both of our processors and while I couldn't find an exact match to either one of them I just took the closest thing and it looks like yours just blows mine right out of the water... lol, makes me wish I didn't think newer was better back when I bought the 6350... lol. probably could have saved a lot of money if I looked harder at older rigs and got the same if not better performance. We learn from our mistakes I suppose.
