Ok so my asshole friend sold me this laptop thinking it was a sweet deal but then when I started using it, a lot of issues surfaced.

While playing games or watching videos, the screen would just go grey. Sometimes I could press ctrl alt del and it would return to normal, but most of the time I would just have to restart the laptop. I tried to fix by installing the latest amd drivers, but amddriverautodetect says that amd catalyst doesn't support my version of hardware/software. My latest discovery was that if I went to BIOS and turned switchable graphics from dynamic to fixed, it would try to boot and I would instantly get the grey screen.

Can anyone tell me exactly what my problem is? Is it still fixable? If so how? My friend who sold this laptop to me was able to play games on this laptop just fine. He told me he doesn't know what happened to it either.

Some laptops have brand specific graphics drivers. If you go to the manufacturers web site, you should be able to get the newest driver. I would check with the manufacturer to see if they have any specific instructions on a system restore partition too. Many laptops have hidden partitions with the original system and all its drivers to repair the system to new condition, some just put aside a certain amount disc space to do normal system restore updates. Check and see if system restore is an active option. You may be able to fix your laptop without doing anything except a restore to a date back when you friend had the laptop working perfectly. System restore will not delete your programs, games, picture or music files, but it may require that you go to Windows updates and see if some windows system updates need to be re-installed.
