My PC´s memory is a 4 gb Kingston Hyperx Blu @1600 mhz (1.65v). I wanted to add some more memory so i could play games and multitask better, so i ordered another Kingston Hyperx memory this afternoon and when it arrived i realized it was a Kingston Hyperx Genesis (not Blu). After doing a little research it seems that one is an older model than the other, but both have the same features (4 gb, 1600 mhz, CL9, 1.65v etc etc).

So after this, i was wondering if i am going to experience any compatibility and/or performance issue using these "different" memories in dual-channel. My MoBo is an Asus m5a78 lm lx v2.

If it helps, here´s what CPU-Z says about my memory (the Genesis is on slot 1 and Blu is on slot 2 i think)

Slot #2:

Sorry for my english. Any advice will be really appreciated.

Give them a try, no guarantees, mixing DRAM can and often is problematic, generally can make some voltage chanes or timings to get them to play, here though with the sticks at 1.65 it cuts down the options, most basic 1600 sticks are to standard or 1.5 volt sticks

Well, when it comes to compatibility it seems to be working fine. Both memories recognized by the system in dual-channel and so far no BSODs or anything.

Now what about performance, am I going to notice any performance reduction because of this, or should it work fine?

If you check the Jedec #1,2,3,4 chart in my pictures (slot 1 and slot 2 tabs) they seem to be different in both memories. Does that somehow affect performance in dual-channel? I dont really know what that information means.

Anyway, i called kingston tech support, gave them serial numbers of both memories and they told me they should work fine. So everything looks like i wont need to replace any module.

Hey hernands, can I ask you about this? How's it running 1.5 yrs later?

I'm in the same boat--got 8gb of Genesis, and might be adding 8gb of Blu. Curious about the compatibility/performance etc.

THANKS!!! :)
