Hello, I am planning a web portal for maintaining the database of several employees and provide social networking within that portal. Suppose, I have 20 Companies as clients and each company have 5000 employees on average and i need to provide access to company and employee of there database. How do i maintain the database? What are the technical requirements? Also help if the no. of clients increase from 20 to 200 to 2000. How my requirements will change? what will be the server requirements & architecture?

You want to create a 'portal' of some sort for a potential 100,000 users? Possibly rising to 1 million or more?

That is a non-trivial exercise. You'd need to define your usage requirements a LOT more before server architecture comes into play.

i need to maintain all the details about past and current employment detail of employees with there credentials in soft form which can be accessed by employers, employees and if required or requested by future employers also. With this i would like to integrate linkdin or facebook kind of features for social networking within the organisation between employees. I want the probable architecture for the system. since i will be charging a fees for it therefore the cost is not a problem. but in order to set a fees and penetrate in market, i need the bare minimum cost of project for techincial requirements?

It sounds like you have an entrepreneurial spirit, but you are seriously lacking subject matter expertise. If cost is no object, then you need to hire a Systems Administrator, a Database Developer, and a Web Developer. You also need someone who is expert on HR/Health/Privacy laws in your country since you seem to want to store confidential employee data; you also need legal advice to guide you as well.

So do your own homework to see what it will cost you. The Internet will not be able to give you real numbers; you have to do it yourself.
