4GB ram installed 2GB usable

i just recently installed 1x1 DDR2 2GB ram to my pc in addition to the one that was already installed. But it shows that only 2GB was usable . Earlier when i had 2GB ram it showed that 1.75GB ram was usable . is it fake or ...

my motherboard is m1200 and my bios version is B03-B1

you need to check that the ram your using is compatible with your motherboard!, check that the frequencies line up

You need to check whether you are using 32bit or 64bit OS.
If you are using 32bit windows then 2gb of ram has been reserved by your system leaving only 2gb of ram usable

You need to use 64bit windows to use complete 4gb ram

Also make sure that the both memory sticks that you are using are IDENTICAL!
