Okay well the situation is we've never had any lag spiking issues besides minor issues but ever since Comcast bought out Timewarner we have been getting a lot of issues. We were gonna upgrade to Verizon FioS but they don't support our area which sucks. Anyways we are guaranteed 30down and 10up. We only achieve 16down and 1up and they blame it on that we are the last line. Anyways enough background.

Issue is My cousin is a wireless gamer while I'm hardwired. Now it's not just his computer as I do game on my pc and xbox. Whenever he lags on his pc my xbox lags as well and these are huge spikes 1000ms+ and hardwire sits calmly at 50ms. We thought it was the 10 year old router dying but we just bought a brand new wireless router and it's alot better but the spiking issue is just as bad. Any way to remedy this I'm open to anything. Hardwiring is not possible for the whole house. Any programs u can use to monitor internet in the household for someone sucking up bandwidth?

We have a large household of wifi devices well over 10 devices active 24/7 mostly laptops and phones and ipods and such. I've thought it was maybe my brother's girlfriend on netflix but she wasn't home past few days so this doesn't add up. Anyone have an idea?

Some routers have a quality of service feature (QOS) built in. This allows you to prioritize your connections. Check through your settings and see if it is available. If it is set your PC or xbox to the highest priority.
