Nearly four years ago I purchased a HP Pavilion dv6-2155dx Entertainment Notebook. It performed very well, nearly flawlessly at the beginning. It of course slowed down as I installed new software. I took steps to reduce memory overhead like disabling some video effects and reducing the number of startup programs. That made some difference, so it's a little faster than it was. However, during the last few months, it's been freezing abruptly more often than before. I don't know why. It's frustrating to be writing an e-mail and then have to wait two - three minutes before I can resume writing.

I checked the system yesterday for viruses and malware, and found that a few registry entries were infected with a virus. The virus was quarantined. It didn’t solve any performance problems. I’ve been running Advanced System Care on a regular basis.

Someone on this forum said in response to a similar complaint that this is an issue with HP dv6 notebooks. It has to do with the motherboard and video card. I haven't noticed that there were many others with the same problem. The computer may have done this a little bit at the beginning, but it's just gotten worse. Why is that? Is there something I can do besides replacing the motherboard or buying a new notebook? I just purchased 8 GB of RAM to replace the 4 GB the notebook came with; the maximum is 8. Will replacing the RAM do any good?

Here are some details of the ram:

DDR3 - 1066SODIMM63 (2 x 4GB)

I purchased it from GB RAM Technologies

I haven't installed it yet. When I do, I expect to see it appear in System Requirements.
