!!! bought a new motherboard and cpu and the system is working again.

My PC has worked for quite some time (2010) but recently my pc froze for the first time while it being on for some hours.
Now it just keeps freezing.

I've tried putting my RAM in all kinds of different slots/combinations but it seems only to start with BOTH ram in the first 2 slots (closest to the CPU), and even then the system sometimes failed to boot with a red lamp BOOT_DEVICE_LED on my motherboard.

I've also cleaned out the dust in the case and I've reapplied thermal paste. This has made no change.
The system still freezes without my HDD plugged in so that's not the problem. I've also tried to re-insert the motherboard battery

Please note that my system freezes seconds after booting up (it used to be a bit longer) so I can't use the BIOS either.
I have made no change in my hardware setup as long as I have had the PC.

Rarely while booting the pc also freezes on 'Asus loading express gate'

I use Windows 7 64bit.

You need to try and get hold of some other RAM to try. Not got a friend that can lend you theirs?
