CPU temp indicator starts @ 90C

Hi,
I have a A7V266 motherboard with an AMD Athlon II X4 630 CPU.
Right after startup (cold room) the monitor warns me about the high temp. All other temps are round 30C. The CPUfan is constantly spinning @ max. speed. That sound is annoying.
I tried changing different settings in BIOS, but it doesn't change anuthing.
I'm sure the temp is not too high (I don't use high capacity programs).

Has anyone any idea what causes the misreading? CPU or motherboard?

Thanks in advance.

I would install a temp monitoring program such as coretemp or hwmonitor and see what it reads. If it is reading the same as your computer you may have a thermal problem.

If they read an acceptable temp than you are fine with your temps. You may need to flash/update your bios if it is reading an inacurate temp. Check with you mobo manufacturer to see if there is an update that fixes that problem.

Thanks fo your reply.
I forgot to mention that I run Ubuntu. I use Hardware Sensors Indicator to show me all temps and fan speeds.
As mentioned before the high temp is shown from the very beginning by 2 programs, as is the high fan speed. Do you know if the results come from the CPU or the socket?
I'm confident about the temp, but I'ld like the fan not to spin so fast and make less noise.

Thanks,
The paste has already been reapplied twice. Everything is clean. The akward thing is that the CPUfan rev's up while the BIOS screen is still showing. It is quite premature to show a temp of 90C.

I'm still thinkin you need to clean your cpu cooler/apply new thermal paste. I would try that. If that doesn't fix it try updating bios.

As far as where the temp is coming from, BOIS will show CPU temp. I am not familiar with Hardware Sensor Indicator, so I don't know where their reading come from.

You can adjust CPU cooler fan speeds in you BIOS, but I would only adjust that after you have ruled out faulty bios and bad paste/dirt cooler. That is very dangerous if your CPU is really overheating.0

Are you overclocking at all? Are you running stock cooler?

At this point I would be leaning towards bios update. If everything else checks out and the bios doesn't fix it, I would guess you have a cpu problem or a bios problem. It is clearly not a software or OS problem.

I dont suppose you have a spare CPU lying around that fits that socket that you could test with?
