Hi guys this is my first time building a PC the specs are :

Power supply from Corsair CX500W
Motherboard from Asus A55BM-A FM2+
Processor AMD Athlon 760k
Ram 4GB intregal 1333mhz
ATI Radeon Cape Verde 7770 1GB

Everything has been installed correctly as far as I know when I turn on the power the led lights turn on the reset led turns on the hdd light turns on the light indicator on the build turns on and when I push the power button the graphics card fans turn the cpu fan turn but no display is showing on the screen. Just to mention the Graphics card is a second hand and it should work since it's brought from a store. To mention the I have HDMI cable going to my graphics card to my wide screen TV to also mention all other parts of the pc are fresh out of the box completely new and just the graphics card is second hand does this play any part?

GPU is probably fine. Do you have the TV set to the correct input?

Yes it is set to HDMI I think I have figuered the problem myself on the box it says PCIE 3.0 only works with FM2+ processors mine is a FM2 processor although I'm not convinced this is the problem as I have seen this motherboard paired up with the athlon 750k and r7 260 graphics card

A PCI 3.0 cars is 100% backwards compatible with PCI 2.0. This is not the problem.

Also I can't tell what part of my system is causing an issue due to my case not supplying a 4 pin speaker to supply the necessary beeps a friend recommended that I got a DVI to VGA cable he says because HDMI may not work out of the box

I have never heard of that issue, but I guess you can try it.

You haven't wasted money. You have a computer built that works with a small issue. Look over this list before we go anywhere else:

THE Installing standoff part has caught me out I havent installed all the standoffs and my case doesnt support my motherboard fully, do you reckon I build the pc on my motherboard box to test if it works that way?

YEs that is the correct war to test a PC before installing it in the case. Hopefully you have not shorted the motherboard by not using the standoffs. I'm guessing it is fine.

Hi I have decided to try running the build on top of the motherboard box to no avail... I decided to check the cpu to check if it was installed properly amazingly enough when I took off the heatsink the CPU went with it! so I installed the cpu properly checking no pins were bent I installed it properly ran up the build again still no output on the screen

No, your CPU is not installed correctly at all. It should not come off with the cooler. You did not do it right. Hopefully the CPU/motherboard are not damaged.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vep_gcygYbA this will teach you how.

Hi I have done it exactly how it is done in the video and have double checked taking off the cpu heat sink without the same problem as last time and still no output

If the CPU was correctly installed then it WOULD NEVER come off with the heatsink and if it did that would mean you ripped all the pins in half. It should be locked in with the little lever.

Yeah I meant the first time it wasnt installed correctly then I took it off with the heat sink , then did it correctly, then I double checked that the cpu wouldnt come off when I took of the heatsink.

Did all the pins look fine? They could have easily been bent with the CPU installed incorrectly and clamping the cooler down.

Yes they do btw I've been powering up the system by holding my case up to it and putting the PWR SW on the motherboard and pressing the power button the case since idk how to do it on the board

You just use a screwdriver or other bit of metal to bridge the two PWR button pins on the motherboard.

Yeah thanks I've used a paperclip now this issue of the board do you reckon I should send me cpu and motherboard back and get different ones? although they're compatible?

No, if you truly haven't damaged the CPU, they are not the cause of this issue more than likely. UNLESS you fried the board by not installing the standoffs.

How can I tell if I've fried the board? it doesnt really show any signs the light bulb on the pc still turns on and the fans on the cpu and gpu still work fine

Ah okay what shall I do now? btw thank you for helping me so far you're patience with me is truly admirable also let me mention that I removed the jumpers on the clear cmos which made literally no difference although when I put them on the last 2 pins of the 3 power doesnt enter the motherboard

Put it back to normal and leave it like that while trying to figure this out. Is your RAM a single stick or two sticks?

I've thrown away the case since I now know it wasn't good for the parts it was a trash £30 one which came with a 500w powersupply which was lighter than my iphone 4s which I also threw away I've put the mobo in it's anti static bag and all the other parts in it's respectable places

What PSU are you using? A crap PSU might be the causes of these problems. Not likely but it could have something to do with it.

I'm using a corsair 500w power supply I've thrown away the crappy psu just to update you I have a pc motherboard 4 pin speaker and a dvi to cga cable on it's way so I can do the post test that I see on youtube my motherboard didn't come with a beep speaker so yeah. I'll run the tests try out the cable and update you then :)  I have a feeling its due to the bios version on the motherboard I cant tell which one it is even because I cant get any display!

Your motherboard should have shipped with the correct BIOS as your CPU is fully supported by the oldest BIOS available on that board. This is not the problem more than likely.

IF the BIOS version does not support the CPU, no matter what it will not POST. You NEED an older CPU to update it. But, because I believe you are posting just fine, it is not the problem. The Speaker will tell us alot.

Move the RAM to the pother slot. Worth a shot. Sometimes single channel RAM only works in one slot.

Yo mate I have a feeling it is the ram it's not on the CPU or Motherboard support or QVL Qualified Vendor List I have until the 27th to return it on amazon I'll wait until the 26th for the speaker to arrive then I'll arrange a return with amazon for the ram and go for a better known brand such as Corsair or Patriot

I highly doubt its the RAM. ANY DDR3 RAM should work with no compatibility issues. Usually those lists mean nothing. Im using RAM that is not on my CPU or Motherboard list and running it at a speed that isn't "compatible" either and I have zero issues. You can try that if you want. The speaker will tell us if it is the rAM.

Hey it's all sorted now I replaced those parts and got a sweeter deal (; a amd fx 6300 and a msi motherboard it worked like a charm I used the same ram and the same graphics card the motherboard beeped once and booted up sweetly thanks for all your advice guys
