is this worth spending money on?

Solution
keep in mind that this is pretty old hardware, but you have a decent cpu and power supply.i would upgrade the video card to something like a radeon 7850 starting at about 120.00usd.this should give you quite a boost in video performance at a good price.you could also add some ram (your board supports up to 8gb),but this wont affect gaming a lot and ddr2 is kinda expensive.i wouldnt go any farther than this for upgrades.i also run old hardware and know that my next upgrade will be a new system.

Sincere apologies, I'm typing on my phone it must of lost feel free to abuse me :)
I have an old comp details are as follows
Mobo- Asus p5n-e sli
Cpu-Intel core2 quad Q6600@2.40
Gpu- nvidia GeForce 8600gt 256mb x2
Psu- antec 550w
Hard drive-120gb seagate
Ram-4gb

I only play rts games like medieval total war.
I have just bought empire but it runs poorly.

My question is can I upgrade certain parts, I.e the gpu or is it better to start from Mobo up?? Budget comes into play as money is tight.

Once again sorry for the blank question.
Regards

Yeah budget is seriously lacking so for the moment it would be a new gpu as opposed to a new p.c, but saying that if it can't play empire which is all I really play it might not even be worth doing that.... What do you think?

Hi aldan, I only play total war games but would like to up the graphics, I thought I read somewhere that this Mobo only recognized 3gb of ram (not sure if this is true I might of dreamt it) could I overclock the gpu? And is it even worth doing??

if you add an hd 7750 or 7770 you wont need to overclock the gpu.like usafret said your board will take 8gb of ram.im in canada and a 2gb stick of ddr2 800mhz is about $50 so adding ram is up to you.if you do make sure it matches the frequency and ram timings of your present ram.

if your bios allows overclocking you can.its an interesting process and kinda fun.start slow with small increases.read everything you can find on overclocking first to get a good understanding of what you are about to do.that aside, try the video card first and see what it does for you.
