Hi.

I bought a new seasonic platinum 760 xp2, and with mode hybrid fan (fan whitout spin), the psu have a constant and very little noise when my rig is turn on, I think that the sound is not coil whine, it is lower and light than the noise of my new seagate HDD (ST1000DM003), but I would know if is normal that with 0 rpm this psu have a operating minimal noise if approach the ear, or conversely if it shouldnt have absolutely nothing of noise as if it is turn off.

I also ask the same thing about the HDD, with APM >200 haven't click noise, but have a little idle noise.

If it helps here leave the record (1º half the hdd noise and 2º the psu, the phone is placed almost stuck to both).

Thanks.

You will still get a slight electronic hum if you put your head close enough to any electronic device. The hard drive you will hear the sound of the motor and the platters spinning, so there should always be a very slight noise from there.

If you aren't doing weird stuff do you hear noise? If not you're fine. If you are doing weird stuff like putting a stethoscope on your hard drive you are in unknown territory just looking for problems then you will find weird behaviors no one else has ever commented on because they didn't go searching for it.

Thanks. Then always there is a minimum idle noise when is connected although the psu be semifanless right? I will stop worry in that case if it occurs with all psus.

Ever walk past a transformer on the street and heard the buzz? Just because it is electricity doesn't mean it doesn't generate physical movement. All of the coils will generate a slight hum, every time a FET changes state there is a sudden jolt to everything down stream which will make it change shape and generate a bit of noise. Solid state electronics don't generate much noise, but they do still generate some. Someone published a paper recently on cracking 4096 bit encryption by listening to the super high pitched noises generated by a CPU, you will find noise everywhere if you listen hard enough.
