^I would take the previous review with a grain of salt. Who buys both a 780ti and a 290x? Stacks here, is simply an Nvidia fanboy!
290x, it is cheaper and you get equal performance.

some more features like higher texel rate and lower TDP are things to consider . . yes i agree that they are both closely equal but not fully . . the ghz edition is more powerfull then the normal 780ti

if you check any benchmark you will realise that the 780ti is quite a lot more powerfull than a 290x...also run cooler, quieter and more MUCH more headroom for overclocking...defenetly go for the 780ti unless the 290x is 100$ or more cheaper..

The MSI lightning is made for extreme overclock so you could make the r9 actually better than the gtx 780ti

that is totaly not true the r9 290x comes with already very agressive clocks from amd and has not much room left for overclocking no matter what the model it is, including lightnings. the 780ti is quite a bit faster clock for clock and has much more room for overclocking...+ they also make msi lightning 780ti you know...its jut the way it is, the 780ti is superior to the 290x in every aspect except for mining virtual worthless coins.

Out of the box the GIGABYTE GV-N78TGHZ-3GD is the faster card.

Look man, in the benchmark you posted even the GTX 780 OC does better than the 290x in some tests...the 780ti is the better card of the two she won in EVERY games and EVERY benchmarks, not a single doubt about that and anybody here will tell you the same, i would like it too if it was the AMD card that would do better but it's just not the case, plain and simple... that's it...

The only reason to pick the 290x would be for ultra HD (4k) gaming because at such high resolution the memory bandwith and wider memory bus of the 290x gives it a little advantage and allow the card to match the 780ti clock for clock

They are both similar. I would go with the cheapest one especially if you can get one a lot cheaper

Oh look, the OP said wich one is better and why and price does not matter so probably they are at the same price or he just want the best, wich is the GTX780ti...every benchmarks on the whole big interweb agrees the GTX780ti performs better, run's cooler, draw less power and overclocks better...there is no reason to go with the 290x in this case. i hope this time i have been clear enough.
