Parts for my laptop

Hello I need help with parts for my laptop. Now can you just buy any CD rom drive and hard drive for a laptop and plug it in and it works? I have a sony vaio PCG-7184L Can someone please help with what kind of CD rom drive and Hard drive I should buy cause they both do not work. Thanks all!

Yes you probably want to fine one specifically designed for you laptop so it will fit or you could just get an external drive.
