I'm using an NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 instead of my on-board graphics. I have my main monitor hooked into to the 520's HDMI port, and I've been attempting to connect a spare VGA monitor to the on-board port, rather than buy a monitor with DVI-D capabilities to hook into my 520. I've enabled the on-board in BIOS, and the on-board VGA monitor is recognized now -- I can even move my mouse onto the other monitor, but the secondary monitor isn't displaying anything.

I've tested the VGA monitor on another computer, and it functions perfectly, so the VGA monitor is in working condition. I've also removed my GT 520 and verified that the VGA monitor is compatible with my hardware -- it works perfectly without the graphics card.

Is there something obvious that I am overlooking/forgetting to configure?

VGA Monitor: Dell E173FPs
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Board: Pegatron 2AC2
BIOS: AMI (Version 7.19)

Thanks in advance!

Both the on-board and graphic card cannot work at the same time. Either you run with graphic card or on-board card. Buy a adapter.

Agree; this is probably the cause. Sometimes you can get around this limitation, but I don't know what allows that. :)

So... now that you need to plug everything into just the video card, you might be able to use a DVI-I to VGA cable.

Check your DVI plugs... look at the actual pins on the plug.... look for the flat pin all by itself and see if it has two pins above and below it or if it is all by itself.

If it has the 4 extra pins, then you can use the analog feature and get a DVI-I to VGA cable.

I think he is trying to do Dual Screen. Why don't you buy another cable and use both the cables on video card and then connect them to both the monitors.

I had been looking for a solution on/off over the past week, and it turns out that I just needed to install a driver. My computer came with the external graphics pre-installed, and I guess HP didn't install the driver for the on-board ports. I installed the driver through Windows and the second monitor is working like a charm -- although, I also do appreciate your feedback.

Interesting. Glad you found a fix.

P.S. Just for fun I marked your reply as the "solution" [smile] After all, you did solve your own problem.
(Note: I realize that marking the answer is not that big a deal, so that's why I said "for fun") You can uncheck it if you want. :)
