Hi I have a old LCD not CRT Monitor and it has HDMI and DVI-D ports at the back, i just wondering if i can plug hdmi to my motherboard and DVI-D to my graphics card.
yup only one cable...dvi is digital and vga is analog, the dvi/digital signal is better than vga/analog. the reason there is multiple ports is so that you can connect another monitor or have variety of ports.
Does your motherboard support on board graphics? Also, even if it does, will your BIOS allow it? Mine turns off integrated graphics when there's a card plugged in.
you can also just use the hdmi and dvi ports on your graphics card, no need to try to run onboard and dedicated at the same time and why do you want to hook up to display connections to 1 monitor?

It would pull part of the load off the graphics card I suppose. A second monitor that's not doing anything stressful would be easier to run on the CPU rather than the GPU.

i understand that but in the op it sounds as if there is only 1 monitor in the equation that is why i asked

1 only have one monitor. Can I plug the hdmi to my mobo and dvi to my gpu ?
just take your dvi/vga/hdmi cable and plug it in to the graphics card ports(they run from left to right on the width of the back of your pc) dont use the ones that are running up and down(the height on your pc)
