Ok, so I am planning to build a PC that can do good gaming and recording, but also do Litecoin mining (not tat the same time, of course). The CPU I will be using is the AMD FX 8350. I need to know what to get for this. Will this work? Also, any suggestions on hardrives? I would like to be able to run high-cpu usage games like Battlefield 4 and such, and while I am not gaming, or making my Youtube videos, I would like to be mining Litecoins.

are you kidding? I admit, i've not been paying attention to ram pricing recently, but $210 for 16gb of ddr3 1866 9-10-10 ram? Wow... so overpriced i'm speachless.

Listen my friend, coin mining doesn't need an 8 core AMD... and it doesn't need 16gb of system ram. generally with litecoin mining you need 1.5gb of system ram per 7950 (or equivalent) gpu. so if you're going to use... lets say 4 7950s... you'll need 6gb of system ram.

Furthermore ddr3 1866 with a CAS of 9 is pretty common stuff... i doubt you'd need to pay more then $80 for 8gb of that type of ram. If you insisted on 16gb, because of video editing or something, i'm sure you'll be able to find it for a lot less then $210

here is something you could use...

Mining digital currencies does not depend on the RAM, so any compatible set should due. A-Data, Corsair, and Kingston are the brands I've had the best experiences with. Don't worry about getting high-MHz either, you can't even tell the difference between 1333 and 1666.

As far as hard drives go, the best combination is an SSD for Windows and your most-used programs, and a bigger hard drive for the rest of your stuff. Samsung for SSD (128gb probably), Seagate for hard drive.

with the 15% off code that ram is $72; so 16gb of it would run you $144; and that is just as fast as that dominator ram.

I am worried about the RAM a bit because I do play some some games that take a bit of RAM. And could you help me find a nice hard drive? I am going to be honest, I am 13 years old, and have learned everything I know about crypto-currencies and mining and all of these hardware rigs in about 2 days without breaks, so it is a bit overwhelming for me. I have even made a list of a bunch of parts that I want to make my custom gaming/mining PC

And, like I said above, I am a bit overwhelmed with all of this new information, so will that 16gb (four) work fine with an GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 Motherboard and a AMD FX 8350 Processor?

well... i'll tell you a little known fact.

until 30 months ago or so, 4gb was considered "more then enough" ram. Frankly, it's still plenty. The only reason people started to even suggest 8GB of ram was because 8gb of ddr3 ram cost like $40. it was so dirt cheap people started to suggest the frankly "overkill" 8gb of ram as a matter of course.

not much has changed really... 8gb is still largely overkill for 90% of computer users... it's just people have been suggesting 8gb as the "baseline" for so long they've forgotten the fact that really... almost no one needs more then 4gb of ram anyway.

That said, your stated use does indicate you might have some reason to have 8gb of ram. So lets stick with that. 16gb is a very large number and mostly useless for all but 0.1% of people out there (mostly people doing 3d CAD or some sort of computer animated art... or even video editing...). unless you expect to do one of those things you don't really need 16gb of ram.

ehh, i'd get a standalone miner for cheap:

you could use these:

the gridseeds are meant specifically for mining and are inexpensive (relative to power/cost to a graphics card)
