Hi guys. I'm looking for some input here. I want to see some suggestions on what to upgrade next.
This is my system:
AMD FX-4170
Gigabyte 970A-D3
Arctic Freezer Pro 7
Seagate 500gb HDD
16GB Corsair Vengeance 1666mhz RAM
EVGA GTX 660 2gb
Fractal Design Define R4
Creative Labs X-Fi Professional
Thermal Take TR2 650w
Windows 8
- The motherboard has always been weird. The rear USB's died within a week, but I never RMA'd it because I didn't have a backup board and I had two PCIe16 USB extenders laying around.
- I'm thinking of getting an SSD for windows and some games.
- I know I have a potato power supply. But I've been using it for over a year without a problem so I don't plan on changing it.
- Windows 8 isn't activated. I'd rather deal with the "Activate Windows Now" message once every two hours than pay the ridiculous $100 activation cost.
I use the PC for productivity and light gaming:
- I always have Chrome, Spotify, and Skype open. A windows explorer window or two is usually also open. With all of that open the computer gets a little sluggish but it's still manageable.
- I play FSX, Minecraft, Cities XL Spintires, and some other simulation games. They run on high-ish settings without problem.
- I have two monitors.
I'm thinking either an SSD or a motherboard/CPU upgrade. I don't want to spend more than $200, but I can probably push to $250 if I need to. What do you guys think?
