Problem : Audio only plays out of two front speakers and subwoofer nothing from center and two rear speakers.

The Realtek HD Audio Manager detects all 5 speakers but all my applications refuse to play 5.1 and instead play at 2.1 instead. I've tried everything I can think of such as disabling the other Audio drivers such as the HD and the AMD one which is also installed, making sure that my speakers are the default audio device.

Now here comes the weird part if I play a video on YouTube however it plays as 5.1?!?

Motherboard - Gigabyte H85M-D3H
Drivers - Latest - 6.0.1.7076
Speakers - Logitech 530

Thanks in advance.

Solution
How are Games and sound encoded.
Well depending on the code 2.1 or 5.1 sound output.

It would not make sense to make an app with 5.1 surround out put because all the others due to movement in a game ect or film/video may use 5.1 surround.

For example Audio or music is not always encoded to play at 5.1.

In any case, just have a check that by right clicking on your default sound device the 5.1 speakers are connected to.

That in the playback devices of windows sound manager the speaker setup is also set to a 5.1 speaker config.

Realtek is still routed through windows sound manager even if it is a different app.
So the actual speaker config setup in windows playback devices can be the cause.

A example is in the realtek app 5.1 may be...

Yeah I'm almost 100% sure that my cables are hooked up correctly.
Sound test as in that check in the Audio Manager where it plays a sound from each speaker? Then yes I also have run this. All speakers work correctly however the rears and center do not play when an application (Spotify, WMP, MPC-HD) uses it other than YouTube (Firefox).
I'm currently running Windows 7 64bit.

ok m8 try this ,
right click desktop/personalise/sounds/playback
check realtek is set as your default device
then right click on realtek and go to configure speakers, make sure they are set to 5.1
also check properties of speaker for sound levels

I've tried all of the suggestions you've given mate but unfortunately nothing has worked. All speakers test correctly but the only app which plays through all of them is Flash Player?

But by clicking on windows sound manager or playback.
And by right clicking on default device, in the setup speaker options and config it is set to 2.1 sound and not configured and set to 5.1 setup as well.

If not set to 5.1 should work fine after that.

Hi Cheeho. There's a number of factors regarding your audio issues that are similar to my own (SEE thread: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2109062/gigabyte-x79-ud3-mainboard-issue-onboard-audio.html).

It's interesting that we're both running Gigabyte boards with the latest Realtek audio drivers (although mine are 6.0.1.7037), our Realtek audio managers confirm that the speaker setups are good but our apps, games and videos dispute this. But most interesting of all, YouTube videos play just fine! - I can't help but suspect that someone at Realtek has dropped the ball and the community is having to pick it up.

Our problems are very similar; I'd put money on our solutions being practically identical!
