Hey all I seem to be having heating issues with my Phenom 965 and I think my problem is due to high voltages. My temperatures rises to 60+ just by watching HD livestreams on twitch.tv.

My question is are my voltages correct? "Balanced Mode" on my Power settings, Asus Cool & Quiet show my Mhz jumping from 800 to 3400 mhz depending on the task. But if I choose High Performance mode, it stays at 3.4ghz and the voltage is at a constant 1.5v.

800.00 mhz = 1.1600v
2200.00 mhz = 1.3440v
3400.00 mhz = 1.5520v

I don't overclock and when I purchased it, the cpu looked kinda used. Could it be possible that the previous owner changed the voltages on the cpu?

Solution

No, your M/B is doing that.

That's high voltage for not overclocking, but it is the M/B doing it automatically.

Disabling Cool and Quiet will force the cooling fan to run wide open and lower your CPU temps, that may be enough?

I would suggest inspecting the stock cooler for dust buildup as well!

I'm using the stock cooler and the thermal paste is already applied. After doing some more research the problem is caused by my high voltages. Apparently it's supposed to be 1.4v max but mine is on 1.5v. Now the question is, how do I change the voltages of my cpu?

It turns out the problem was the mobo, after searching online for a solution it appears that others with the same mobo and cpu have the exact same issue as me. Setting it to "Power Saver" mode fixes the heat issue as it lowers the voltages to 1.1v which in turn makes my pc run cooler at around 35 celsius.

Was yours overclocked by any chance? Mine is running at stock 3.4ghz. Also I do plan on purchasing a Cooler Master TX3 to alleviate my heat issues. My case is a Cooler Master 310, I wasn't sure if a 212 would fit in it.
