Hi guys, I am currently using this motherboard and a DOUBLE sided 4gb kingston RAM.

Gigabyte Technology H77M-D3H
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4143#ov

This afternoon, I wanted to purchase a RAM stick but after asking questions to the vendor, i got confuse and decided not to buy after i clear my doubts. I have a couple of questions concerning RAM sticks.

The vendor taught me that there are two types of stick. The Single sided and a double sided RAM. However, the double sided RAM are starting to become obsolete now because single sided RAM uses less power but more efficient than the double sided RAM. He told me that I should not combine a single and double sided stick because it will not work. He told me that for motherboard, anything below the 8th series motherboard will not be compatible with a single sided ram. Is this really true?

My motherboard is the 7th series right? so if i purchase a single sided ram then it wont work on my motherboard?

Thanks in advance!!

You can pretty much ignore everything that guy told you.

When you buy ram by it as a kit. Get one with two sticks in it, so your board can run in dual Chanel mode. And thats about it.
So if you want 8 gig of ram pick a kit that had 2 4gig sticks in it.

Try not to mix and match brands and types, or mix single sided with double sided.
If your going to keep your current 4gig stick, then get another kingston 4gig double sided.

Ram is cheap, id just replace it all with an upgraded kit.

Agreed. The guy sounds like an idiot. They are usually called single/double rank, but most RAM is double rank currently.

Get 2x4GB DDR3-1600 CL9 1.5V.

EDIT: Dual channel and dual rank are different things. Dual rank refers to there being two sets of memory ICs on each stick, dual channel is having two links from the RAM to the memory controller instead of one.
