NEC DVD Rewriter - files burnt - no files listed?

I just installed a replacement NEC ND-2510A DCD rewriter into my Windows XP PC (while waiting for new one to be sent to me).

As the title says, I burnt a load of music/videos etc onto a Verbatim DVD+R disc successfully.

The disc shows up on the DVD player, but if I put the disc in the computer, right click the D drive & explore, nothing shows as being on the disc.

How do I get the files to show there, so I can safely delete the originals from my computer?

Older burnt discs show up the files perfect;y, but new discs burnt with this rewriter don't seem to, even though they are there!

Any advice or help will be gratefully received.

Cheers
Ian

Very likely the disks that you're trying to read are of a higher speed rating (e.g. 32x) than your drive supports, so it doesn't properly recognize them. Try updating the DVD drives firmware here:

http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/3292/

Might just fix it.

If I put a disc I burnt on the older (faulty) rewriter, it sees those, but discs I burn on this NEC it doesn't 'see' any files.

I burnt a home video successfully on the NEC & it played fine on the home dvd player, but if I try to 'explore' the disc on the NEC rewriter, it doesn't see anything, even though they are there.

I'll try the firmware update & see what that does. I've downloaded it from that link - do I just double click the .exe & let it run?

Thanks DataMedic - I don't think the drive is bad, as I put loads of other discs in there & it sees them fine. It's just the discs that it has burnt - it's all burnt ok, just it can't see it when I try to explore the newly burnt disc!

With regards to the firmware update (if that's what may help) ... I've got the .exe file for the rewriter. Do I just double click that file & wait?

Anything I should avoid doing, or will it just do it all itself?

Sorry - bit of a novice.

Okay.

I used the .exe that said it was going to update from 2.15 to 2.19.

Clicked FLASH, restarted computer, put a disc in, did an 'Explore' & got this:

D:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function.

Have I wrecked the rewriter?

Right - I think I am nearer to the possible reason ....

The NEC ND-2510A dvd rewriter burns discs on +r Verbatim discs, but cannot see them if I do an 'explore'.

+r discs burnt on another rewriter ARE seen.

I just got a couple of -r discs, burnt some files onto it & the drive sees them.

I have updated the firmware (as mentioned in an earlier thread).

Why does the rewriter see other +r discs burnt on the other rewriter, but not +r discs burnt on the NEC?
