So my little brother is complaining that his cpu gets really hot at normal daily use around 60 degrees celcius. could this be the result of the lack of thermal paste on the cpu or a bad cpu cooler. He has a Zalman CPU Cooler http://www.zalman.com/eng/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=...

More about : cpu temperature normal

How old is it? Changing the thermal paste might help. If the CPU cooler is installed correctly it should be enough to keep it at normal levels regardless of how bad it is.

What CPU?
Lack of thermal past is not an option, unless you mean non.
Too much is possibility.
Thermal paste is only for the parts that don't directly touch.

Metal to metal beats thermal past every time.

It tales so little thermal past, that not having enough is pretty hard to do
It should be opaque, when you remove the heat sink.

Its a core i7 930 clocked at 2.8GHz factory clock. and the CPU is pretty old, I bought when the 1366 sockets came out

Just looked around and 80c seems to be the max normal, but doesn't throttle till 100c or 105c.

Most say keep it under 70c.
It is a 130 watt part, so it doesn't surprise me that it gets hot.

What were the temps when it was new.
I really didn't find anybody with temps below 57c

The CPU doesn't ware out and get hotter, but the heat sink can, and thermal paste dries out, depending on the type you use.

What are the room temps?
Every degree the room temp goes up, the CPU goes up a degree.

How is the case cooling?
That also has a direct effect on the temps of the CPU.

Is the cooler clean?

From what I see, you are OK.

Oh okay so there nothing wrong with it. its just how the CPU was meant to behave. The cooling is okay since his motherboard temps are at 30 degrees, but his GTX 580 is around 50 degrees Celsius +/- 3 degrees. Alright thanks guys oh can you send me the link from where u got that information from so i can show my brother.
