I bought this wired Xbox 360 controller a few days ago to play some games on my desktop (like Dark Souls). About 2 seconds after confirming I would buy it (on ebay), I noticed the controller didn't have a standard USB connector, but this weird PS/2-like connector. No problem, I instantly ordered this breakaway cable (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00I2SHXRU/ref=oh_de...). It arrived the other day, so I tested it, and it doesn't work...
I installed the appropriate software btw (from the Microsoft site).
You know the sound your pc makes when you connect a USB device? Well, if you plug this baby in, it doesn't. I tried it on all my 12 USB ports on my desktop (Win7 64bit), on my laptop (Win7 64bit as well) and on my sisters laptop (Win8.1 64bit), it works nowhere.

It could be that I'm doing something wrong, maybe the connector/controller is defective, or maybe this wired controller -> USB setup doesn't work on the pc in the first place.

I hope you guys can help me troubleshoot, because I don't know what to do anymore.

Make sure it isn't loose on the computer and it may be broken due to the fact that your PC never made a sound; have you checked Device Manager?
