Hey everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my gpu (running a super old GT 430, so yeah). Current specs are:
1) 735W Power Supply (80+ Bronze) - Raidmax is the maker
2) Intel DH67BL MB
3) 2 x 4gb 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM
4) i5 2500
5) Case is Cooler Master 690 III if that matters

Choices in gpu are (country of purchase is Sri Lanka, these are pretty much the standard prices):
1) Sapphire Radeon R9 280X Toxic OC 3GB GDDR5 - Approx USD. 560
2) Sapphire Radeon R9 280X Vapor-X OC 3GB GDDR5 - Approx USD. 530
3) MSI Geforce GTX 770 Twin Frozr Gaming OC 2GB GDDR5 - Approx USD. 630

Due to limitations on the current gpu I haven't been playing too many games, as the current one is dead I figure I'll spend a bit and get a card that will last - pretty much will be Witcher series and Farcry series (I don't care that much about running a game on ultra, normal or high will be fine). Resolution monitor supports is 1980 x 1080. Let me know how you guys think I should proceed.

Both cards perform the same, and the 280X is cheaper. However, it runs pretty hot, so unless you already have a good cooling system in place, you should go with the 770.

Performance varies a lot in games between in games, though the gtx 770 should be a little bit faster in general, then again it only has 2gb of vram when the r9 280x has 3gb.

If the r9 280x is that much cheaper you should go for it.

What games do you intend to play? That Sapphire Vapor-X is so much cheaper, it really comes down to what you actually plan to use it for. In general, for me, it's always worth it to pay a little more for the Nvidia option. The driver support, heat and noise levels, and unique technologies they offer are worth paying extra.

Where are you buying from?
Those prices seem high for the US.

Regardless, the R9 cards seem overpriced because of bitminer demand. The similarly performing GTX770 would be my pick.
Instead of paying more for fancy coolers, I would look at a GTX770 superclock, preferable with the excellent titan direct exhaust cooler.
