Extending WLAN signal

Hello everyone,

I am a little unexperienced with networks and thus have a question. The router in our house is located in our basement, so the WLAN Signal is very weak and near unusable on mobile devices. Unfortunately though, we can't move the router. I was looking for an alternative, but the only alternative I found was a WLAN extender. Though I'm not completely convinced by that. I was wondering if there is a device that can be plugged to a LAN cable, but then sends a WLAN signal. Something like a switch, only with WLAN output if that makes sense.

I hope someone can help me, and sorry if all of that sounds stupid. I don't have a lot of experience on that topic.

Solution
you could run two access points instead of one. just buy another router, disable dhcp, and set it as the same ssid and password but on a different channel than the first.

Thank your for your fast answer. I was actually hoping there was a "smaller", dedicated solution for my problem because I don't want to have an extra router in my room. But if there is no other way, then I'll go with that.

Edit.: After considering your answer I've searched a bit through amazon and it seems there are really awesome mini router solutions, exclusively designed for WLAN. So my problem is solved, thank you!
