Formatted USB - Any Way to Recover Data?

Hello all,

Long story short, I foolishly formatted a USB pen drive when creating a boot image of Windows 7. I now need to know if I will be able to recover any of the documents that were on the drive before I formatted it (and copied a Windows image to it). Would any professionals be able to recover the data?

Thanks in advance.

Not only did you delete everything on the USB, but you put something else over it. I'm afraid that data's gone. :(

Edit: Well, how much data did you have before and how big is the windows image? It is possible that you haven't covered it all.

I couldn't have had more than 40 megs worth of vital data on the drive. THe windows image is 4 gig, and the drive is 8 gig.

Possible but unlikely you will get everything. Maybe a couple of files or even fragments of files. Being a flash drive doesn't help the matter either.

Some free programs to try first:

Recuva - http://www.piriform.com/recuva
EaseUS (first 2GB is free) - http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/
PhotoRec - http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

My personal choice (Laregely due to it's ability to recover RAID and Linux)
- Zero Assumption Recovery http://www.z-a-recovery.com/

In that case it's probably completely gone. I hope the data wasn't too vital. :(
