Missing network adapter software

I have today reinstalled Windows Vista 64 bit on a desktop - it was working fine this morning but very slowly. I have tried to connect the the internet (it is a Virgin hub) and computer says it cannot find any networks. I have spoken with Virgin and they say I am missing LAN software but are not willing to help any further than this. I have gone into device manager and initially could not find a network adapter but upon ticking show hidden devices I have found the network adapters. They are not named but all appear to be working properly in properties. All have drivers from 2006 (6.0.6002.18005) but I am not sure if they are up to date. I have tried to find the make of the network adapters but cannot find the make. They appear to be part of the motherboard which is a msrock K10N78.

Can anybody assist with details of the software I need.

Is it some form of LAN software which has not come with the reinstall?
Is it an update for the drivers and if so how do I find updates?
Is it network software that should have been in Vista?
Or is it something else?

Many thanks for your time

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded the auto installer and drivers but the wizard says the realtek network controller was not found.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks

Honestly, you can try to go to the maker of the computer and see if they even have any drivers still on the website, but if a computer is that old (and worse Vista hasn't been supported for a long while now) you may be just barking up the wrong tree, that there won't be a solution. While you could try getting a USB to NIC adapter instead, I don't know of any working with Vista since (as I mentioned) Vista hasn't been supported for years.

If this is a general use PC, you might be best to just replace it, as a USB to NIC adapter minimally is $79, if you tried to upgrade to Windows 8 that is $179 that would be supported and comes with most known drivers 'built in'. Whereas a new i3 Desktop at Walmart is only $249 (laptop is same price FYI), it is more cost effective to replace a PC then it is to 'patch' up one.

There is nothing unless I tick show hidden devices. Then I have network adapters with 7 'branches' when opening the network adapters which show WAN Miniport each followed by one of the following (IP), (IPv6), (l2tp), (Network monitor), (PPPOE), (PPTP) AND (SSTP). When going into properties for each of these it says each is working properly. Each of them has a driver assigned.
