The setup:
HP laptop connected via VGA/audio cable to Sony Bravia TV. TV selected to PC input good. Cable is good.
PC and TV resolution settings ok.

I can only see HP background (no desk top icons) on TV. HP computer screen is ok, shows all desktop icons.

Fn/f4 keys - screen selector will not function. The setup worked yesterday/ watched youtube. Today no go.
I restored HP to earlier date, no change)

Tried for hours to make PC display appear on TV screen, no luck. Again; (only showing PC background)

Does anyone think this could be a TV driver problem or an HP internal switching function I have not tried?
Need answer. Thanks

Joe

on the FN keys, there should be a display selection button... use FN + key one click and wait for 3-5 seconds and repeat until you get the screen displaying as you want it.

Or just grab and slide the application you want on screen... either full left or right off the laptop screen

Fn key no go. I would like to see, on the TV, the entire PC screen. Not just an application.
I would like to watch youtube but to the TV will only display the PC screen backgroundd, and nothing else.

Not a resolution issue. I when through all combinations.

HP PC screen is 1280x800. Sony 52" Bravia TV is 1024x768.

I'm just not getting anything other than PC background on the TV and PC will not switch the TV screen background off.

This is Joetv:

I think I will give up working on my problem today. I will try to fix the switching problem by looking at
the solution a different way.

Thanks to everyone for your good sugestions.
Have a good night.

which OS is the Laptop?

Look here: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Screen Resolution

It should show connected monitors... in your case, the main screen and the TV. the "Multiple displays:" drop down gives you choices for behavior.

OS is VISTA. I picked all of the choices for the monitors.
The TV will only show the PC output of the Blue Background.
The PC will not allow me to display (on the TV screen) any website or other PC screen information.

I have been at this problem for 2 hours yesterday and for 3 hours today.
I know the solution is always somthing simple, but I just don't have enough computer experience to solve it.
