Intel Core i7 4770 3.4 Ghz
AMD R9 270 2GB
Gigabyte B85
Corsair Value Select 8GB (2x4gb)
HDD 1TB seagate barracuda
2TB seagate barracuda
SSD 128GB Sandisk

Right so.. Had this problem for a couple of weeks now it started a couple of days after upgrading my Processor from an i5 to an i7. I think this may be the problem but i have heard if you have a bad CPU the pc wont boot, any truth to this?

At first it would randomly get strange graphical glitches for a second, then a black screen and then either the display would return and a pop up saying AMD display driver has stopped responding and has recovered, or the black screen would stay for 30 seconds or so then the PC would shut down.
It has gotten worse now almost never recovers and if the display comes back it will be frozen then the pc will shut down again. This problem has also happened on Intel Graphics and the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. Have never overclocked. All temps are fine.

What i've tried:

Switching the PSU
Switching the MOBO
All drivers for my GPU
Clean install of Win 8.1
Clean install of Win 7
Switching the RAM
Switching the PC to monitor cable
All software fixes that are advised in online forums and vids

A day or so before the problem started i accidently downloaded 2 trojans which AVG automatically quarantined and i almost instantly deleted. Could this have something to do with it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

When you were using the onboard graphics was the AMD GPU disconnected from the system?
Do you still have the i5?

As for the trojan considering you did clean installs of Win 7 and Win 8.1 that is unlikely to have had anything to do with your issue.

Thanks for the rapid response

PSU is a 600W corsair, are there 'degrees' to which a processor can be faulty or are they either working or broken with nothing inbetween?

Yes the GPU was disconnected from the mobo during onboard graphics crashes
and unfortunately i have sold my i5 but will have access to an i3 in the next week or so

If switching the processor does not work then i have no idea what it could be.. Any other troubleshooting i can do?

Bump looks like no one wants to touch this thread with a barge pole :p

Tried an i5 still getting crashes, I think my GPU is overheating because it feels very hot after crashes despite my GPU tweak app saying its only at 22 degrees C. Also i think my RAM is overheating(?) or bad and that would account for the crashes using inboard graphics as they are less frequent.

Occasionally my system fans will stop and start on boot which didn't happen with the other mobo which i find odd.

Next course of action is get a replacement GPU then if it still crashes occasionally switch the RAM again.

Any input would be amazing! Honestly getting so disillusioned with this whole business that I may just get a whole new PC.

Cheers

Update: Memtest86+ says RAM is fine, also getting strange flashing dots in different colours on desktop and all programs with Intel HD Graphics (onboard)
