I want to upgrade my desktop pc from a single 250GB HDD to a dual hard drive setup I will discard the original HDD and use a 250GB SSD as the main for my OS (windows 8.1 64bit) and all my programs and a second 2TB sata 3 HDD for storage only my question is this..... is there any special steps I need to know about I will be using all the same components they are all just getting moved to a new tower casing the only parts im replacing is the old HDD

Just make sure when you are installing the OS that only the SSD is connected. Reason being that it just makes sure to minimize human error and prevent you from installing to the wrong storage device. If you have an extra slot still just keep the old HDD for even more storage. Or, use your two new drives (SSD and 2TB HDD) for windows and your old HDD for Linux and to tamper around with and learn.
