I have a corsair H60 coming with my system and i was wondering does the cooler literally use water? it seems like a terrible idea but ive heard horror stories of coolers burning out entire systems, any insight?

Solution
I would test whether it's leaking right out of the box and test it outside of case with the motherboard standing vertically instead of laying down. Just let it run for a few minutes and maybe do some stress test to speed up the pump. Oh and with paper towels around to see if there's any liquid drop. If it starts to leak, turn off the PSU by it's switch immediately. And then just let the system drop up by itself without hairdryer or anything, maybe try to wipe it with lint-free cloths, then just let it dry itself.

People talk about this particular one leaking or having hoses come loose and destroying systems. Is it possible to replace whatever fluid is in this unit with a better non-conductive fluid?

Yes, but it's not recommended, not worth the effort, and not very easy to accomplish.

It's not that bad, there's a reason why people still purchase them and that the item is still on the market. It means that the failure rate isn't enough to scare most people off.
